Energy efficiency
Windows are the second highest in energy loss in most homes, second to insulation. Depending on your choices, you can save approximately 30% in heating and cooling bills with the right windows. Adding options like low-E, argon, thermo pane (double or triple pane), foam filled frames, and proper installation well boost efficiency
The three most common ways windows lose energy:

Conduction - heat conducting directly through the glazing or frame. (The conduction of heat inside in the summer and out in the winter) |

Air flow - poor seals or warping and cracking over time that allow air to pass through and around sealing surfaces. Sometimes due to poor window quality more often due to poor installation. Not knowing how to replace windows properly, doesn't just plague the do it yourselfers. (Do you suppose any roofer or handyman really know much more about windows) |

Solar heat in the form of UV (ultraviolet) radiation that passes through the glass into your home. |
